several video recordings, each of an equal length, made at equally spaced intervals

 

layer the sections one on top of the other such that each layer is equally apparent
begin with all the layers present and play through to the end of the section
then show all but one of the layers and play through to the end of the section
then one less
then one less
until there is only one layer left

 

synchronous sound recordings are layered in an opposite manner
first, one
then two
then three
etc.
until all the layers are present
