CONSPIRACY PIECE
Adam Overton, October 2009
. . .
for performers, during the performance of any other piece
seriously, not theatrical
.
add to the general paranoia of the room
by adding one or more simple visual cues revealing
that something might be wrong, or
that your mind right now might be elsewhere, or
that something else might be at play...
examples:
. a single painted fingernail
. a subtle, coded article of clothing
. a scar, bandage, or limp
. profuse sweating
. a few furtive glances or nods
. barely contained anger
. audibly slamming a door backstage before entering the stage
. wet eyes / wiping eyes
. an extra inactive performer onstage
. the last-minute substitution of a performer, with no explanation
. the last-minute cancellation of a piece, with no explanation

hi adam
i think your conspiracy piece turned out really beautiful for the concert series.
people loved it if at all they realized where to find it! i usually presented all scores of the evening after the concert.
and as usual, some people would understand suddenly, and others would not until it evenually got clear
by talking asking or looking for the presence of your piece.
i'd say, it definitely added a joyful and affirmative atmosphere to a rather serious way of art making ...
actually i tried to somehow connect your piece with each evening programme, and was looking for simple but effective nice things, both easy to miss or enjoy.
hope this all sounds fine. i loved performing your piece!
july 5th: during the first piece which I didn't perform, I put a kind of absurd attachable sunglasses on my glasses, and kept them on for our performance of the second piece and the rest of the evening(i guess nobody has ever seen me with sunglasses).
july 6th: exhibition of my daughter's beautiful white toy horse in the empty gallery space just next to the musicians. it looked really beautiful, came to a certain extent alive.
july 7th: i installed a blinking metronome on the floor during the entire evening.
july 8th: my long shoelace has been open during the entire evening.
all the best
manfred
